“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.” (Acts 2:2-3)
After you have gathered and arranged your wood, you need something to light the fire. In the above passage, we see cloven tongues of fire sitting on everyone’s head. I think that is really cool. However, what was the purpose of the fire? Amongst the few things that the fire symbolises, I want to focus on one: zeal.
When the fire rested on them, it brought zeal. Another word for zeal is passion. If you have no zeal, you cannot render quality service to God. Do you see the connection? The wood is the service. The zeal is the lighter or matches. I want to believe you have seen a wet box of matches before. Have all your firewood ready. And if you like, add a highly inflammable liquid like petrol to it. If a wet box of matches is all you have, you will have no fire.
Zeal is to service what a lighter is to ready firewood. I have informed you that you should have a spark of your own fire on God’s altar. If you lack zeal for the things of God, your fire will go out and if it does, you would have lost the connection between you and the God of the altar. God is interested in your fire. That was why He said, “Thy fire shall ever be burning upon the altar, it shall never go out.” (Lev. 6:13).
Because you are zealous for God’s house, God has taken away your reproach. You are going forward. God will send you helpers that will be very zealous in helping you succeed.
WORD OF WISDOM: If a wet box of matches is all you have, you can’t get a fire started.
PRAYER/CONFESSION: In the name of Jesus, Father, send me people that will stop at nothing until they help me succeed.
